On Saturday, October 12th WFD Members and other guests enjoyed a sneak peek at The Graystone Hotel, as a late addition to the WFD Buffalo Walks tour series.
The Graystone Hotel was constructed between 1894-1897 and was originally known as Berkeley Apartments, which opened in 1897 with 63 units. The Hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1897.
Given the historic nature of this property, Ellicott Development Company has recently invested a $6 million rehabilitation working in concert with the New York State Historic Preservation Office and the National Park Service. The partnership is to ensure that the redevelopment efforts conform to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standard for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
Ellicott Development Company is currently completing the finishing touches on the Graystone Hotel to lease 42 apartments with space still available for studio, 1 & 2 bedroom apartments.
Located at 24 S. Johnson Park in a mixed-use commercial/residential area on the northern edge of Buffalo’s central business district. This Italian Renaissance style building is architecturally significant as one of the earliest examples of the use of reinforced concrete technology in the construction of large-scale, multi-story buildings in the United States.
