Committees The strength of WFD comes from its members. We invite you to become an active member by joining and serving on one of our committees. Please consider making a commitment. BUFFALO FORUM: Plans and coordinates the Buffalo Forum and the Buffalo Talks Series. The Buffalo Forum presents a debate or panel discussion on current and controversial issues. Buffalo Talks is a series of discussions about community issues. Both programs aim to educate the public and generate an ongoing dialog about the issues presented. Contact: Donna Gonser or Carolyn Murray THURSDAYS IN THE CITY: The Thursdays in the City Steering Committee is bringing downtown residents and professionals together once again for a weekly B.A.S.H. (Business and Social Happy Hour) from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at The Stillwater every Thursday night starting September 27th and running through April. Come meet your neighbors and fellow downtown workers; Come to learn more about downtown; Come for the food and drinks; Come to see old friends, or Come to make new ones. Whatever your reason for coming, let's make downtown the place to be on Thursdays! Working for Downtown, in partnership with City View Properties and Core101, invite you to join us at The Stillwater, 483 Delaware Avenue, every Thursday, and better yet, join our committee by contacting Sarah Couch. PROGRAM COMMITTEE: The Program Committee plans and organizes the Brown Bag Lunch Series, Annual Meeting and member social events. The Brown Bag Lunch Series is held the first Wednesday of every month at St. Paul's Episcopal Church (128 Pearl St.) in downtown Buffalo. Other events include tours of downtown facilities. These events provide an excellent opportunity to network with other WFD members and guests. Contact: Theresa Kazmierczak MEMBERSHIP: The Membership Committee is responsible for developing, recruiting, and maintaining the organization's membership. Additional responsibilities include distributing membership material to prospective members and organizing new member orientations and social events. The committee also coordinates the slate of officers and board members to be presented at the Annual Meeting. Contact: Jake Schneider PUBLIC RELATIONS: The Public Relations committee serves as the external voice for the organization. It is responsible for preparing media releases for all events, membership programs, and social functions. Additionally, the public relations team will provide support and guidance to all WFD sub-committees, fund-raisers and special events. Contact: Nancy Sanders DOWNTOWN NEIGHBORHOOD: The Downtown Neighborhood Committee focuses on issues that promote and develop downtown as a neighborhood. The objective is to improve the quality of living, working and visiting Downtown Buffalo. The mission includes improving the aesthetic appearance of Downtown Buffalo and promoting the neighborhood concept by developing and improving amenities that make Downtown a desirable destination. In 2001, this committee planted the garden located in front of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library. Contact: Jill Beck WATERFRONT: The Waterfront Committee organizes exciting behind the scenes tours of the Buffalo Waterfront that give a very current and sweeping picture of how our waterfront is developing. In the past the committee has monitored and reported on various waterfront projects, including the Inner Harbor, Peace Bridge and Plaza expansion, billboards along Route 5 south of the Skyway, and the City's development of a Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan. If you are interesting in taking a lead role by leading this committee or if you would be interested in serving as a committee member please contact: Contact: William Jones BRICKS FOR BUFFALO: Bricks for Buffalo was initiated to celebrate WFD's 20th Anniversary. Located at the NFTA's DL&W terminal (behind HSBC Arena) on the Buffalo River, Bricks for Buffalo includes a Women's Walkway and a Plaza Walkway. Both walkways contain engraved bricks and other items purchased by current and former WNY residents. All proceeds from the sale of the Bricks will go toward a downtown public art fund.
